Masked Booby
I encountered a young Masked Booby bird which is hardly to see in Chichi-jima the other day.
Scientist said that this young bird might escaped from volcanic island “Nishi-no-shima” which is recently restart active and erupted.
Masked Booby breed only at “Senkaku Islands” and “Nishi-no-shima Island” in Japan.
A small place of about 1 hectare is barely left without being swallowed by the lava, and there are many seabirds visible in there last year.
I’m worried about what birds will become with this eruption.
先日珍しい鳥を見掛けました。１羽のアオツラカツオドリの若鳥で、父島ではほとんど見かけることはありません。
研究者によると、最近また噴火活動が活発になった西之島から逃げて来たのではないかということでした。
アオツラカツオドリは日本では尖閣諸島と西之島でしか繁殖していません。
西之島では約１ヘクタールほどの小さな場所が溶岩に飲み込まれずにかろうじて残り、そこにはたくさんの海鳥たちの姿が確認できたのですが、今回の噴火で鳥たちがどうなるか心配です。
