Today’s Akapoppo（Columba janthina nitens） Mar. 30

I heard a low tone birdcall of an “Akagashira Karasubato” (Columba janthina nitens／Red-headed wood pigeon) during the breeding season from outside the window when I was editing photos. “Akagashira Karasubato” is an endemic species to the Bonin (Ogasawara) Islands which is an endangered species and has been designated as a national natural monument. I heard birdcall several times, so I grab the camera and went around to the back of the house and found a male bird perched on a banyan tree.
It seems that there is a female bird that was hidden by branches and leaves. So a male bird sang to appeal to that female bird.
When I was taking pictures and observing the male bird that is in grooming for a while, the female bird that was perched on the tree in the back flew away and the male bird followed a female bird.

編集作業をしていると、窓の外から絶滅危惧種で国の天然記念物にも指定されている固有亜種のアカガシラカラスバトの「ホーホー」という繁殖期のオスの低い唸り声のような鳴き声が何度か聞こえたので、カメラを持って建物の裏に回ってみると、ガジュマルの木にオスのアカガシラカラスバトがとまっていました。枝や葉で隠れて上手く見えませんが、どうやらもう１羽メスがいるようなので、そのメスにアピールをするために鳴いたのでしょう。
羽繕いをしているオスをしばらく撮影をしながら観察していると、残念ながら奥の木にとまっていたメスが飛び去ってしまったので、メスを追いかけてオスも飛んで行ってしまいました。
