海鳥の楽園 Paradise of the Seabird

島全体が国の天然記念物に指定されている特別保護地区の南島はカツオドリ、オナガミズナギドリ、アナドリの３種の海鳥の繁殖地で、たくさんの海鳥たちが営巣をしています。

カツオドリの真っ白い雛はまだ羽も生え変わっておらず巣から出ることはありませんが、もう親鳥と同じほどの大きさに成長しています。

Minami-jima island is a special protection area where the entire island is designated as a national natural monument and it is a breeding ground for three species of seabirds such as Brown Booby, Wedge-tailed Shearwater and Bulwer’s Petrel.

The pure white Brown Booby chick has not molted yet and still staying in the nest, but it have grown to the same size as their parents.

The one in the left with blue color around the eye is male, the one in the middle with yellow color around eye is female and the pure white chick.
